Quitting Smoking…Billy Joel Knew The Truth About Cigarettes.

August 26, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

Sweet Virginia cigarettes are burning in my hand, they used to be a friend of mine but now I understand, it’s been burning up inside me for so long, but in the morning there will be hell to pay somewhere along the line.

These are some lines from an old billy Joel song, and they very much sum up the realities of smoking. I’m sure many of you have thought of cigarettes as your friend at some point.

That companion who is always there whether you are bored or lonely or stressed. There with your morning coffee or your, after work drink.  Always at hand to help out, always ready to relax you.

You may remember your friend being right there when you first noticed having less energy or started coughing in the morning. It was with you as you stepped out of your doctor’s office after being advised to quit.

Maybe it was there when you received that serious diagnosis. I’ve even seen people standing out the front of hospitals in their gowns hooked up to their drips, still sharing a special moment with their friend before returning to the ward to continue treatment.

For these people they have reached the point where there is hell to pay. Of course you wouldn’t let it get this far, would you? Well many have, and many still do!

You understand that this friend of yours is no friend at all. What kind of friend would deceive you, steal your hard earned cash and threaten to kill you.

The cleverly written lines by Billy Joel go right to the heart of the problem. Those cigarettes which drew you in, seemed to offer so much but were plotting against you all the time. If you don’t realise it by now then good luck, you may be one of the lucky few who slide through unscathed.

But if you want to get rid of that dodgy friend before there is hell to pay, then you need to consider quit smoking hypnosis. Because when you think about it you know it’s all about the habit. Those times your friend was there was about routine not some questionable drug habit.

All those moments spent with a cigarette, were just moments of self deception. Fooling yourself that some dried plant combined with chemicals and rolled in paper can have meaning in your life will surely end in pain.

Quitting Smoking…What Does It Really Mean To you?

Hi Future Non Smoker

Generally when asked, what quitting smoking means the answer is off the cuff and superficial, such as “I will feel healthier”

But what does this really mean? And does this answer provide the emotional power required to quit smoking for good. I have to say an emphatic no. If an easy answer is the best you can offer then I seriously question your real commitment to stopping cigarettes.

I guess at this point the less than serious will opt out, but I encourage you to take a long hard look in the mirror and find a powerful reason.

Given that you have seen hundreds of grisly images of dying smokers on cigarette packets and countless television commercials of people in sad smoking induced situations, you are most likely quite jaded and a little fatigued by fear based quit programmes.

So how can you access those deep powerful reasons which will be your guide to stopping cigarettes for life.

Perhaps you could take yourself to a quit place, and allow yourself to remember the important times in your life. To recall times when you felt healthy and well.

Now think about the things you still want to do in your life. Things that will work much better if you have your health and energy.

Really concentrate on seeing yourself doing those things, notice how you feel, how good that will be. Allow yourself to completely be immersed in those feelings and enjoy seeing your life unfolding.

Now quickly switch your mind to the same future if you don’t quit smoking. Your health has declined; your energy is low, see and feel how things would be different. Maybe you have had a serious diagnosis.

Now think about oranges or cows or anything else. No one wants to dwell on thoughts like these, but that imagined future is likely to happen and you know it.

So I’m sure you are beginning to gather a list of powerful reasons to quit. Each limitation of your future smoking life will add to the list. Keep looking at that list then make an appointment for a hypnosis quit smoking session.

A good therapist will take all those reasons and weave them into your session. But more importantly they will filter all those future healthy events into your unconscious mind and make it easier than you could imagine to walk away from cigarettes forever. Start planning for your life today.

Quitting Smoking…How Far Is Too Far?

Hi Future Non Smoker

When you first started smoking, it’s most likely your friends did also, you were cool and grown up, part of the group and perhaps a bit of a rebel. But soon that changed.  You discovered that smoking didn’t make you special; you had just created for yourself a powerful dangerous habit.

Then in spite of all the warnings you continued, but for you how far is too far. Was it the first signs of loss of energy, or puffing climbing the stairs?

Maybe the cough when you wake up each day, or the more frequent colds. The slow decline of your cardio vascular health or the general feeling of being unwell, often blamed to aging, with the obvious signs of skin aging.

Through to the more serious problems, such as amputation from smoking caused diabetic complications or the long list of deadly illnesses lead by lung and throat cancers.

In my experience as a clinical hypnotist I have seen it all. From the person with the slight shortness of breath, to the emphysema sufferers, to the client who has had a limb amputated and facing the prospect of losing another.

Right through to the person who only has three months to live and has come in to quit in the desperate hope of just having a few weeks more on this planet with their loved ones.

So I ask you again, how far is too far. How much pain will you put up with, how sick will you become, how much of your body must fail or succumb to illness before you lean out of the window and shout to the world, that enough is enough.

When you weight it up; in the blue corner you have a habit which stinks and costs you a fortune over time. A habit which has conned you into believing you are getting some benefit instead of just a ticket to a premature demise.

In the red corner you get back as many as 14 years on your life, thousands of dollars in your pocket , not having to go outside to smoke, and the security of knowing you have given yourself the best chance to be healthy.

Don’t sweat over the past, it’s right now and the future that counts. The sooner you book your hypnosis quit smoking session the sooner you can get on with leading the best possible life. Just do it!

Quitting Smoking…Recognising The Big Con

August 12, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

Smoking is one big con.

  1. When you started you thought you would look cool or sophisticated or at least more grow up. But it didn’t take long before you got over those feelings and grew up yourself.

  1. You thought it was a good way to bond with friends. Sharing clouds of smoke and all smelling like ashtrays doesn’t seem like such a great idea in hindsight.

But the con goes much deeper than just the superficial. Accepting smelling bad and spending a fortune over your life time, not to mention the added cost of health care and loss of income is just a part of the con.

  1. You were conned into believing that smoking could help you relax. Relaxing helps you relax not some stick of poison in your mouth.  Nicotine increases anxiety it’s as simple as that.

  1. Smoking relieves stress. Nicotine while briefly it delivers a dose of dopamine to give you a boost of feel good chemicals comes back quickly with a hit of cortisol which raises your stress. Simply stated smoking makes you stressed.

  1. Smoking helps you to think or manage boredom. Stopping what you are doing for a few minutes helps you think and the whole world of non smokers survives boredom perfectly well without lighting up.

  1. Smoking is harder to quit than heroin. This is just an urban myth, we all know that coming off heroin requires some serious medical intervention; coming off smoking just needs a good hypnosis session.

  1. A big con which has been perpetrated by government campaigns and pharmaceutical companies is that you will need several attempts to quit. This is not true!

  1. The biggest con is that nicotine is so highly addictive that you will need mind altering drugs with significant side effects or nicotine replacement at least. Real world studies show no benefits from nicotine replacement.

Perhaps the biggest injustice that continues to levied against smokers is that the most successful method to quit smoking, hypnosis, according to New Scientist, is still something of a secret, in spite of practitioners worldwide helping smokers every day to quit.

The simple fact is that for you to quit smoking, the best thing that you can do is to put all the past beliefs behind you and look at quitting with fresh eyes and feelings.

Decide to quit, believe you can do it and book your hypnosis session as soon as possible.

Quitting Smoking…Where Have All The flowers Gone

August 6, 2014 by

Hi Future Non Smoker

There was a famous anti war song in the late sixties entitled “where have all the flowers gone”, by Pete Seeger.  Not a very happy song but quite true. Someone could have equally written the song about smokers.

Where have all the smokers gone. Well the good news is that many have quit, but the bad news is that many have died or are likely to soon.

So why do so many continue to smoke given that we have known the truth about smoking since the late seventies. In spite of the American government refusing to believe the research that showed that smoking caused lung cancer, for several years.

Similarly it was recognised about the same time that smoking did not relieve stress, it just gave you a short term hit of feel good chemicals followed by the big hit of cortisol, the core stress hormone.

In the eighties the research continued into the effect of smoking and heart disease and diabetes, confirming more and more reasons to not smoke.

Yet people in countries where this information was freely available continued to take up or continue smoking. It’s almost impossible to believe that in this era of so much conclusive data that smoking kills, there are still large numbers of new people taking up smoking each year.

Sure more and more smokers are quitting than ever before, but the problem still exists for millions, and every year many young people take up the habit.

It’s not about being uninformed, the nanny state we live in plasters or consciousness with images and messages about the problems. It’s not about blatant stupidity, even seemingly intelligent people smoke, so what is the attraction for new smokers and why do so many continue, often in spite of painful reminders right in front of them.

Many know family members and friends who have died, some are feeling either mild or severe effects, yet it’s not enough. At the time of writing I have a potential hypnosis client who has suffered one amputation and facing another, yet still remains uncommitted to confirm his appointment. I cant imagine the thought processes involved.

Perhaps he is fearful of feeling some discomfort or not knowing what to do with his hands or even that he will miss his special smoking moments. But if you weight up the loss against the pain of being a double amputee, it is mind boggling.

What he is failing to grasp is that quitting with hypnosis is at best 100% pain free and at worse a mild discomfort over a couple of days. What a shame to have to live with that pain and regret.

Quitting Smoking…Better The Devil you Know?

August 1, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

A reason I have heard many times that people give for not quitting smoking is that they can’t imagine life without a cigarette.

For many people in the forties and beyond they have smoked since they were in their early teens and virtually every event in their lives was accompanied by a smoke.

Smoking with friends when young,  stepping out for a quick last smoke before tying the wedding knot.  Cigarettes with the birth of children, or celebrating a business success.

Smokes to comfort, to calm, to energise, to think, to relax. Other smokes to fill in the gaps during boring times, or as a reason to escape from a party or dinner party for a few minutes.

If you stop and think back there will be so many occasions when a cigarette was just a natural part of your life. So many events, so many people you have shared a smoke with, friends family and strangers.

But now things have changed, perhaps some of those people are no longer with us, taken by the very habit which provided so many memories. Or perhaps you are one of few or the only remaining smoker in your social circle.

And instead of chatting away outside of the restaurant or party, you are there on your own, sucking that toxic smoke into your lungs while the fun is being had without you.

In those early days you were fit and healthy, now the morning cough and the lack of energy is a cruel reminder that smoking isn’t all it was cracked up to be.

Yes it may have seemed like a friend, always there to share your special moments, but that friend has turned on you. Robbing you financially and slowly draining your health in such a stealthy way that you can’t quite remember when you started to feel old.

This dodgy friend who still promises to solve your boredom and help you to think and relax, the friend you still rely on to get you going in the morning with a coffee.

This friend, the devil you know has sold you one lie after another with zero in return. Just the unspoken knowledge that one day it would turn on you and kill you.

You don’t have to stand for this any longer. None of those special times in your life was made any better by smoker, that was just another lie. If you have had enough and are ready to make the most of the next part of your life, then quit smoking hypnosis is the quickest most effective way to do it.

Quitting Smoking …How Your Body Will Respond

July 30, 2014 by

Hi future Non Smoker

Most people thinking about quitting can only focus on the problems they expect to experience. But virtually from the moment you quit your body will be letting out a huge sigh of relief.

Then it is all uphill from there. Within 24 hours your nicotine levels will be close to zero and you will be transporting more oxygen and much less carbon monoxide.

In just seven days your breathing will have dramatically improved and the small hairs will have begun to recover.

This knowledge alone can give you comfort and convince you that you have made the right decision.

After two weeks your throat will be feeling better, you will be losing that classic smoking discomfort.

Three weeks in and your body could cope with surgery, your immune system is making a recovery and therefore wound healing will be much improved.

Six weeks on and your circulation will improve.

Around two months your insulin resistance will be subsiding, basically this allows you to feel well, plus a host of improved physical functions.

Around nine months your sinus and lungs will be better than they have in years.

Inside just a year your risk of heart attack, heart disease and stroke are less than half of that of a smoker.

It does take fifteen years for your risk of stroke to fall to that of someone who has never smoked. But don’t let this be an excuse if you are an older smoker. The benefits flow quickly to every part of your body, plus to your pocket through significant weekly savings, and your lifestyle, i.e. not smelling like an ashtray or having to stand outside in the cold to smoke, or skulk off to smoke so no one will know.

Your body has a remarkable capacity to tolerate various kinds of insult. Smoking thousands of cigarettes proves this. If your body immediately went into shock with your first smoke it would have done you a big favour.

But unfortunately you did tolerate the thousands of cigarettes you had, but only on the surface. All along, your cells and organs and every part of you has been suffering slowly, bit by bit, until you notice a lack of energy or breathing difficulties on exertion.

Maybe you start to cough up phlegm of a morning, so what everyone starts to slow down, but this isn’t about feeling a little off. This is the start of a very nasty deadly process. Fortunately there is a simple way to get you on the recovery trail, hypnosis will get you on the road to heath in as little as 90 minutes.

Quitting smoking…Take Five It’s Important

July 26, 2014 by

Hi Future Non Smoker

Most of us are familiar with the term to take five, but it has a special importance for you when quitting smoking.

The only possible benefit that smoking brings is that smokers often take a break to have their cigarette.  Over time these cigarettes are given magical powers such as helping you to think or relax. The simple fact is that it is the break itself that provides the benefit, the smoke is just the excuse to take the break.

In the mining industry in the past it would be common for a miner to stop, have a smoke and survey a rock wall or similar. It was often during these times that problems would be noticed. This time is so important that it is now standard procedure in the mines to take five.

Smoking is no longer allowed but the time out is. Many potentially hazardous situations are recognised and dealt with because of take five.

So what does this mean for you as a smoker wanting to quit? If you look at your smoking habit you will be able to identify those cigarettes which you have that are connected with taking five.

Sitting on your patio, or in your car before work.

The recharging smokes at morning or afternoon tea.

A few precious minutes near the back door or your work place.

The after work, wind down on your back deck alone or with your partner. Etc etc

You have your special smoking moments, which rightly you will miss when you quit cigarettes. Many people will give up these moments in the belief that they will trigger them to smoke. But this is a big mistake, because quickly you may feel twice as bad, no smokes and way to relax.

Firstly to remind you it’s the break which gives you the benefits, so it is important that you continue to take five. What you need is a new strategy.

First you can do simple things like sit in a different chair when you make phone calls. The same when you relax outside at home. Try a different cafe or again face a different way in your favourite.

Some people will stop having their breaks because they don’t feel justified, if they don’t have a reason to stop. Remember these break are important to your stress levels and decision making, so grab a cup of tea or coffee or just stop to take a few deep breaths or just stare out of the window.

These simple strategies are much more powerful than you can imagine and are made even more effective when you use hypnosis to quit smoking, because all those old habits will be addressed and your new take five habits introduced.

Quitting Smoking…Who Wants More Carbon Monoxide

July 22, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

Carbon Monoxide, is a simple combination of one molecule of carbon and one of oxygen, which has no taste or colour, yet has a profound effect in your body.

While it is true that you produce carbon monoxide (CO) naturally in your body, like most things there is a natural optimal level.

CO is a common pollutant, most well known as the gas which released from car exhaust systems which can kill.

Some friends of fine who are dedicated smokers, like to cite the example of coffee drinkers sipping their brew at roadside tables. They argue that they are breathing in more pollution than smokers.

Unfortunately this is just another example of smoker rationalisation.

The concentration of CO in a smoker’s blood stream is ten times the amount seen in a non smoker in the same environment. The reason is simple, when you smoke you are directly breathing in high levels into a closed system.

The CO coming out of the cars passing the roadside cafe is being diluted by air movement. And depending on wind direction it may not even reach you as you enjoy your coffee.

The effects of CO poisoning, yes you are poisoning yourself, chronic low level exposure effects can range from headaches, vertigo, flu like feelings, depression, confusion, sleep problems, nausea and  memory loss to name a few, through to death from acute poisoning.

The good news is that when you quit smoking your CO levels will fall to close to zero in just one week! That’s right in just seven days you can replace the CO in your blood , which is toxic, with oxygen which is life giving.

So this is either another powerful reason to quit smoking or another inconvenient fact which must be filed away in the do not mention part of your brain, for which you will need to create an excuse, such as my friends did with the coffee drinkers.

Let’s assume you  have had enough CO and it’s time for oxygen to be your friend again, then hypnosis is the easiest way for you to once again to get your fair share of oxygen.

Freeing you to have more energy to pursue life, better sleep to enhance that increased energy, a more stable mood allowing for less stress and more happy moments, all of these effects and more can be enjoyed when you use hypnosis to stop smoking and reduce your carbon monoxide.

Quitting Smoking…What If You forgot To smoke!

July 18, 2014 by

Hi Future Non Smoker

This sounds impossible right? But my aunt who was a heavy smoker until recently, suddenly stopped because she forgot she was a smoker.

She has Alzheimer’s disease, this isn’t what stopped her, in fact she was smoking heavily because she lost track of how many she smoked per day. The ashtrays and smokes in her environment were a constant reminder.

But then she fell and broke her hip. After a week in hospital she asked her husband for a smoke. He replied, why would you want a smoke? You quit twenty years ago. She just agreed and hasn’t smoked since.

A little deceptive, certainly, yet in the interests of her health, he did the same when she came home and she asked for alcohol. So what happened to her nicotine cravings, developed from fifty years as a heavy smoker.

Surely she would of had strong uncomfortable feelings, maybe angry, perhaps weird sensations in her stomach, it would be expected that even though her short term memory was poor she would have had a bank of memories of smoking in the past, but she had none of these.

Does Alzheimer’s negate the effect of nicotine? which according to many is the a highly addictive drug which causes strong withdrawal symptoms, so strong that many smokers attempt to quit several times before finally succeeding. These so called physical symptoms should persist in spite of memory.

The reality is It’s not surprising she felt no cravings, it’s because the real cravings are powerful subconscious connections to smoking, not some chemical addiction over which you have no control.

Don’t believe it? Then think for a minute about when do you smoke? After food, coffee, on the phone,  when driving, when you need to think, etc etc. What do any of these things have to do with nicotine?

There is another way to forget to smoke, another way to be free from the clutches of cigarettes, without having to struggle with cold turkey, plaster toxic patches on your body or even take mind bending pharmaceuticals.

Hypnosis is the solution, the safe fast way to change the memory in your unconscious. It can be done without any of the stress or trauma of experiencing a life changing disease such as Alzheimer’s.

However for most people the effect of forgetting about smoking is no less powerful. Many have no connection, some a little and some have to work a little harder, but all in all your best option.

Quitting Smoking…Imagine A Picture Frame

July 14, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

Imagine a picture frame, and within that frame there is a picture of you smoking, perhaps you’re on the phone. Now imagine another frame and another each with a photo of you smoking in one of your typical situations.

These frames lined up paint the picture of your smoking life. Your mind is filled with these frames and then an advertising programme comes along with different frames. Such as images of dying or sick people, these are supposed to replace all the other frames in your mind.

But the existing frames are so entrenched that for most people the grisly images simply create increased fear while they continue to smoke. You may try to force these scary frames to help you to quit but these thoughts only go as deep as the conscious mind will permit.

But the long established smoking frames have been lodged in your unconscious mind since the time you began to smoke.

In hypnosis we use a term called re-framing.  It’s a way to have someone see something from a different perspective. When my son was young one of his friends would stay over, but he only ate pasta cheese and rock melon. He thought everything was yucky.

One night we had a butter chicken curry. My son started eating as it was his favorite, I told his friend he would have to have pasta and cheese because the chicken was so good that we wouldn’t want to share it.

After a while of listening to lots of satisfied eating sounds he said he was glad that he didn’t have to eat such foods, I agreed and suggested that he probably couldn’t curry anyway. He rose to the challenge and in what seemed no time at all he had demolished an entire plate and wanted more.

He continued to try new foods on his visits and soon surprised his family with his new found love of food. He re-framed his view of food.

To change your frame what is required is an intense focus state, which we know as a trance or hypnosis.

This way a conversation is had with your unconscious mind, during which you will easily create new frames in your mind. New ways of thinking as a non smoker, thinking feeling and behaving as a person who always chooses to breathe fresh air, as a person who cares for themselves and those close to them.

Quitting Smoking And Surgery

July 2, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

In many cases quitting smoking isn’t an option for even the most important surgical procedures, such as heart surgery. That’s because as a smoker you will be on the bottom of the list. You are perceived not only as a surgical risk but as a low priority.

Surgery is a stressful event for your body, even a young healthy body, the anaesthetic, the cutting, the immune challenges, the emotional pressure, the physical strain of having joints and organs pushed and pulled, and the stitches.

Some of the problems include:

Reduction of oxygen to all tissues of your body. This is a significant problem, your heart has to work harder, your blood pressure is higher and you can have as much as ten times as much carbon monoxide in your blood as a non smoker, this can affect your heart during surgery.

Reduced healing capacity. Of course you want to heal quickly, and get out of hospital. But as a smoker you are at a greater risk of infection, bad scaring, and a longer recovery time, this means that your return to work and normal function will be delayed. Having a compromised immune system from smoking is no way to enter a hospital, let alone surgery.

Less ability to cope with anaesthesia. Many people feel the ill effects and the stress of anaesthetics, you will feel it worse as a smoker. You may need more drugs to keep you under and feel pain more acutely.

Blood clots. Cigarettes make your blood thicker and sticker so the risk of clotting and stroke are increased.

Obviously quitting before surgery is the best thing to do. Of course the longer the better. Eight weeks gives you the best results, in four weeks your lungs will be working better, and therefore moving more oxygen.

Even quitting 12 hours before surgery will have some benefit for your heart and blood pressure.

The question is, if you are having surgery and you have to quit anyway, why wouldn’t you stop at least two months prior to your surgery.

The next step is to use this new found freedom from smoking and let it keep you a non smoker for life. 70% of smokers who have heart surgery return to smoking, don’t be one of them.

You can quit smoking and feel more calm and relaxed about your surgery by using hypnosis to quit. This effective process will smooth the way for you to be not only a low smoker but recover better and quicker from surgery.

Quitting Smoking With Hercule Poirot

June 30, 2014 by
Filed under how to quit smoking

Hi Future Non Smoker

Hercule Poirot the famous Agatha Christie detective was himself a smoker. But he was most well known as a master of  solving puzzles. While you may think that quitting smoking is a simple matter of taking some mind bending pharmaceutical or patches which contain nicotine an effective weed killer. As many before you have discovered there is so much more to stopping this deadly habit.

So you need to find a better way to quit and you need a sleuth on your side to dig deep to solve your smoking puzzle and set you free.

Most people when asked why they want to quit, reply that it is for their health. If you are thinking the same then what does this vague statement mean exactly?

What are your problems now, are you coughing in the morning, do you wheeze or puff climbing stairs?

Do your lungs feel congested? Do you struggle to keep up with your children grandchildren or friends?

Do you feel the pain of exclusion as you smoke outside on a cold night as your child stares at you through the glass, how many opportunities have you let slip, precious moments that are gone forever.

Are there places and times you smoke that are special to you, perhaps only known to you?

Do you stand in city laneways at lunchtime with strangers bonding over the need to hide away to comply with the ever encroaching rules?

Do you change clothes and wash your hair so that some people don’t know you smoke? Or perhaps you keep the secret from co workers or your doctor, but you realise that non smokers are sensitive to the smell and doctors pick up on the physical signs.

There are so many things that you have in common with most smokers but there are those important distinctions which apply only to you.

Through taking the time to do the detective work you can get to the core of your smoking problem. To make this information truly valuable these clues are used in your hypnosis session. This way you quickly and easily get to the heart of the problem and you get to be a non smoker faster than you ever dreamed possible.

This process takes nothing more than your complete honesty in gathering the information, your strong desire to quit and your commitment to the hypnosis process. Once you have these things lined up the rest is straight forward.

Hi future Smoker

Not taking quitting smoking seriously may sound like an odd way to approach such an important issue. But that’s exactly what I’m suggesting happens sometimes. Maybe it’s intentional and maybe not. By that I mean are you consciously or unconsciously blocking your success.

Some signs you are unconsciously blocking your success, or you just don’t want to quit.

  1. You turn up for a hypnosis session and challenge the therapist to put you under.
  2. You have been too busy to read you pre session email and follow the pre instructions.
  3. Your partner booked the session and you engaged with the process.
  4. Your intake form is only sparsely filled out, avoiding specific important details.
  5. You keep some cigarettes on hand just in case.
  6. You’re not prepared to avoid a risky smoking situation on the night of your session, in order for your nervous system to fully process the change.
  7. You complain that you may have to give up two hours of your time to quit.
  8. When booking the session it is the least important item in your busy schedule.
  9. You don’t do your follow up steps.
  10. You take several weeks to report a problem.
  11. You come out of hypnosis, and in spite of experiencing specific hypnotic indicators, in spite of no prior hypnotic experience, you immediately question whether you were in a trance.
  12. You have a cigarette sometime after quitting, even though you didn’t need one or want one.
  13. You forget to turn up for your appointment, given that most people who attend can think of little else in the prior day, forgetting is questionable.

So why turn at all if you are not serious, it could be that you don’t want to quit, but are going through the motions to please someone else. But more likely you have a parts conflict.

That is a part of you wants to quick, but another part deep down in your subconscious is not only not ready but will actively block your efforts.

Let’s assume that you do want to be a non smoker, then the solution is to dig deep prior to your session, to be completely honest about your reasons for smoking, and to allow yourself to deeply feel the pain of smoking.

Look at yourself in the mirror and shot out your intention to quit, then light a cigarette and blow the smoke through a tissue and feel the disgust.

Quitting Smoking…Does Hypnosis Scepticism Help You?

Hi Future Non Smoker

Most people who choose hypnosis to quit smoking have never experienced it before. And so some approach the session with some degree of scepticism. This is natural response for people who are anxious about making an important change in their life.

But once you have decided to make your appointment this feeling is a waste of emotional energy. You want to be free from smoking and you need to be committed and focused on stopping cigarettes for good.

Quitting is a two person job, you and the hypnotist. You each have a role to play, their role is to bring all of their skill and experience to the process, and yours is to fully participate, want to succeed, and expect to succeed.

After all you are not having a session to feel a little better about yourself, you are there to stop a habit which is slowly killing you, whether you like to acknowledge it or not.

A habit which steals thousands of dollars from your bank account each year and robs you of precious time with family and friends.

So any feelings of doubt or scepticism can just fade into the distance when comparing them with the benefits for of quitting.

The easiest way to change your thoughts about hypnosis is to focus on what you want, all your powerful reasons for quitting. The benefits, the savings, the improved health. Being able to be more active as you breathe easier and have more energy.

By doing this you are already starting the quitting process before you come in for your session. Turning up to quit with an arms folded posture, challenging the hypnotherapist to fix you. You are wasting your time, their time and more importantly your future well being.

Remember this is all about you. No matter how caring the practitioner is, you are just another smoker in the overall scheme of things. If you don’t succeed, your practitioner will still go home to their family and have dinner and watch television.

They may be concerned on your behalf, but the reality of therapy is that your practitioner cannot agonize over each client or they will go mad. If however your failure to prepare and engage with the process fully results in a failure, then it’s you who lives with the consequences.

Perhaps you will claim that hypnosis doesn’t work, which then cuts you off from your best quitting hope and further cements your belief that you can’t quit. All you have to do is prepare, expect and want to quit and fully engage and you will succeed.
